    Meet Bridget

    Mission: $9,000 Family Fundraising

    · Cerebral Palsy,Kids In Need
    broken image

Bridget is a wonderful 17-year-old who is full of spirit. Bridget was born prematurely with heart and jaw defects and Cerebral Palsy. They have had multiple surgeries to repair their heart and jaw, as well as to correct complications from previous surgeries. In addition, Bridget has been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. This makes social situations challenging for Bridget.

Bridget doesn’t allow their disabilities to define them. From earning a Silver Award in Girl Scouts (organizing and facilitating a free CPR/First Aid course for teens) to being one of their school’s first disabled athletes, they never stop moving forward. Bridget is also a two-time national pageant winner: Miss You Can Do It in 2018 and Miss Amazing in 2021. As part of their platform, Bridget has done extensive community service and worked to raise awareness about disability inclusion.

Despite their challenges, Bridget strives to live an independent life. A service dog will mitigate some of the obstacles they live with as they prepare for college and adulthood. Currently, Bridget is a senior at Wickliffe High School and part of the National Honor Society, Bowling Team and Academic Challenge team. They are an honors student, and participate in their school’s Learn, Lead, Serve program and all while attending college level classes. Bridget’s interests include robotics and engineering with a plan to pursue an engineering major so that they can work to improve the lives of disabled people in their community. In addition, Bridget is an entrepreneur who creates and sells their own 3D printed photos and fidget tools. Participating in all these activities requires much of Bridget’s limited energy. Having a service dog to assist with mobility issues would allow Bridget to have more energy to do the things they love. Additionally, a service dog will provide them much needed psychiatric support.

Bridget is an animal lover who currently owns multiple birds, a chinchilla, and a dog. All of these animals were rescued by Bridget and their family. Bridget used their own money to pay for the pets’ adoption fees, food and supplies. They spend time every day caring for the animals, including feeding, bathing, playing, and socializing them. Since welcoming these animals into their life, Bridget has developed more confidence. With a service dog by their side 24/7, Bridget will be unstoppable!
