Shabbo is a kind and loving sister and daughter. She exudes generosity, humor, and courage. Anyone that gets to spend time with her can see that her joy is contagious, and her laughter brightens up any room! She loves to go on walks, and she can spend hours making beautiful jewelry, playing with our family pets, or swinging.
Since joining our family in 2018 when she was 11 years old, we have come to realize that behind the tenacity, joy, and courage, Shabbo also carries developmental challenges that make life even more difficult for her than her typical peers.
She is the embodiment of strength. She’s been diagnosed with PTSD, mild intellectual disability, and Autism ]Spectrum Disorder. However, if you ask her, she’ll just say that sometimes she has a hard time.
For the past year, Shabbo has been dreaming up all the different things she and her dog will do together. She talks about how her dog will sleep with her so that she won’t be scared at night. She has plans for her dog to go with her to school, so she can be safe and have more independence. She imagines going on walks with her dog like a big kid. She’s been practicing caring for her service dog by taking care of two battery operated stuffed animals, Oreo and Brownie. They go for walks. They have parties. They are treated like royalty.
Thanks to W.A.G.S. 4 Kids, Shabbo is so excited about partnering with a service dog who will be able to help her manage life more independently and who will be a faithful friend.
