Allen has a huge heart and is a genuinely kind person. He is 15 years old and diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Major Depression Disorder. Allen struggles with suicidal ideation as he feels life is extremely overwhelming. The major difficulties he is experiencing are with communication and sensory issues. Reading body language and emotion in others is challenging and leads to a difficult time making friends and interacting with the public. He has developed severe anxiety which holds him hostage in the home for a majority of the time. A service dog would connect with him and assist him in connecting with others. This would also help with his anxiety and depression and allow him to start feeling more comfortable being out in public. We feel having a service dog will go a long way towards Allen being the best that he can be.
Allen is great at video games and enjoys both PC and console platforms. He loves doing crafty things and is an amazing self-taught artist. Allen would love to attend art and computer coding classes. This would be a way for him to communicate with the world and gain skills toward becoming more independent. As an added benefit, art and computer skills could lead to employment in the future. A service dog would assist him by helping him to feel safe and competent out in public and would allow him to take advantage of opportunities to learn and socialize.
A service dog would also benefit the family as a whole. Allen has an 11 year old neuro-typical brother who sacrifices opportunities of his own so that mom can be home with Allen. If Allen was able to be comfortable in public with the assistance of an autism spectrum service dog, the family would gain more opportunities as well.
Please help Allen reach his goals by donating to his service dog fund. We are extremely appreciative.
