Wags4Kids ~ Donations for Courtney

Bookmark and Share

4 years ago, Courtney Murray, 14, was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy, a progressive genetic disease that results in the deterioration of muscle tissue which severely limits mobility.  Over time, children and adults afflicted with this disease are unable to do the things that most people
take for granted:  walking, sitting up, and other simple everyday tasks.

Today, Courtney is a vibrant teenager who is still ambulatory.  Her condition affects her hips and shoulders which challenges her abilities to walk and maintain balance.  She is prone to falling which results in the equaling challenging task of trying to get up.  Also, since she is about
to enter high school, carrying items, like her books and school supplies, are a struggle for her, even with a well fitted backpack.

A service dog, especially one that specializes in bracing, would greatly benefit Courtney by increasing the time and length she can walk, give her access to previously off limits areas, ie stairs, and give her the
confidence that she would have a supportive friend in the event that she would lose balance.

Because we know that the disease is progressive and incurable, we know Courtney will weaken as she gets older.  As her skills deteriorate, a service dog would provide more assistance, in addition to bracing, that she would greatly benefit from.
